Haboob!

Outflow from thunderstorms produced a outflow boundary that brought strong winds and dust to the Salt Lake Valley this evening.  The video below shows the passage of the dust looking east toward the central Wasatch. Dust storms like these are sometimes called haboobs, although this is a weak one.

Following passage of the outflow boundary, a murky layer of dust could be seen looking west toward the Oquirrh Mountains.

The University of Utah recorded a peak gust of 45 mph.  The Salt Lake City International airport hit 47 mph.

A fitting way to cap off a day with a high of 103ºF.  Brutal!
