SOLPEX IOP3: Lake-Effect at Sunrise


The sun is just high enough that we can get a decent enhanced visible satellite image over the lake (1345 UTC/0745 MDT).  As shown above, there's a nice development of convective bands (looks to be two, with some squinting!) beginning just downstream of the upwind lake shore.  Radar reflectivities > 5dBZ develop perhaps 20-km downstream along these bands near the center lake axis and then train off downstream to the south shoreline.
