Patrollers and volunteers at Crystal Mountain Ski Area in Washington have been searching for a lost skier, Paul Melby, since Tuesday. The Crystal Mountain Ski Patrol director suspects that Melby fell into a tree well (see Seattle Times article). Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of Paul's family and friends, of which it sounds like there were many.
We've spoken about tree well danger in a previous post, and there's an entire web site devoted to tree well and deep snow safety. Even though such incidents are not as common in Utah, it doesn't hurt to be alert and cautious.
